Special Election Fails
The Special Election requesting approval for the board to exceed its property tax authority for the 2025.2026 school year has failed. Statute for this election issue requires a 60% approval rate. The unofficial results note that approximately 57% of the voters were in support. Though the majority of the voters expressed support, the 60% approval rate was not met.
Many of you as parents and community members expressed your positive support and/or invested time in advocating in support of the special election request; thank-you for doing so!
Unofficial results reflect that 1,884 total mail in votes were accepted. 1,070 votes were in favor and 814 were against. 61 more votes in support of the request were needed to meet the 60% approval threshold. (There were over 100 mail in ballots that were rejected. Mail in ballots can be rejected for various reasons such as failing to provide a valid ID, including a signature that does not match the signature on file, providing incomplete information, or having an address discrepancy.)
The Administrators and Board will spend the summer months reviewing and prioritizing district needs. As property valuations are released and the state confirms district revenue for next year, a formalized budget for 2025.2026 will be finalized. Please continue to check the district web-site and board meeting information for updates regarding the district budget and plans to address deficits. District budgets are approved in September. Public hearings for public comment regarding the budget and tax requests are held in September prior to the Board approving the budget.
Positively serving our students and maintaining quality and effective staffing levels within the confines of the budget will continue to be the focus as we plan for future years as well.
